“Education really saved my mom,” Mercedes says. “She’s a firm believer in education. I am too, in a sense, but I also see things differently. She believes you need to go to college to be successful. I’m actually trying to disrupt that way of thinking.”
-Mizz Mercedez aka #YoKidzFavoriteTeacher
Mercedes has been part of the public education system for more than a decade, building her experience in areas of special education and behavior. She has seen how technology has made an impact on today’s youth, which inspired her to start a new venture as a virtual educator, also known as ‘Mizz Mercedez.’ She’s an inspiring mother to four boys, dedicated to providing an enjoyable learning process with a culturally diverse curriculum that instills pride in children of color. She urges young adults to view their history using a positive frame of mind and her creativity has no limitations. Mercedes incorporates video games, comic books and animations into teaching methods. She strongly believes today’s kids hold the key to creating a better future and she’s passionate about guiding this generation to unlock unlimited abilities of their hearts and minds. Her so-called superpower, to make this change, is an infectious positivity, that Mercedes carries wherever she goes.
